Great written, I agree with all of your points. One rule, that I implemented for me, was to journal on every bigger decision I make. Regarding stocks, the process is: I came across a new idea, I put it in my journal, run my initial "kill idea checklist" if it is still interesting, and I eventually come to the conclusion to buy it. I write a journal entry, laying out the thesis. I do the same, when I want to sell, and also revisit my initial thesis while holding.
I completely agree. I have a whole post on journaling. A kill idea checklist or negative qualifiers is a good way to keep yourself out of trouble. Part of my journaling is a kill/quit statement or at least a revisit statement. Something like "If the company doesn't do X by Y, then I take a hard look again."
