Thoughts on Market Activity
Sure is bearish out there. I’m finding many micros trading single digit cash flow multiples with reasonable inflation hedges built into the business.
What I’m Reading
This post over at Mispriced Markets was good. It shows some perspective on earnings of some companies during the pandemic and gives you an idea of how elevated they may be. I always enjoy charts.
I’m just about finished Life Is In The Transitions. It’s worth reading if you are going through a major change in your life or are interested in the topic.
Podcasts I Enjoyed
Ian Cassel was on The Investor’s Podcast and he’s always worth a listen. Ian has a knack for explaining things in a way that is understandable.
Cathie Wood on The Investor’s Podcast. Boy this was interesting. FWIW I do my best to keep an open mind and try and learn from those that have a different perspective than myself. Having said that, with hindsight this was probably more entertainment than anything. Some more memorable comments (at least to me):
Retailers are over stocked on inventory and will have to discount. This will help lead to worries about deflation. I don’t understand how high inventories for the purchaser will lead to lower prices or at least low enough and long enough to be meaningful enough to move the needle on deflation.
We are the new Nasdaq as they are the best source for innovation.
Now people are finally talking about a recession. Her Twitter feed must be way different than mine as I have heard the recession fears dominate my feed since early 2022.
The utilities using spare capacity to mine for bitcoin. This truly perplexes me. I’m not sure if you are going to capture energy from flaring is best used to mine bitcoin.
Bitcoin price target to 1.3 mil by 2030 and their confidence has gone up as it has faired better than other cryptos.
Innovation as described by ARKK is currently valued by the equity markets 7-8 trillion and will be 210 trillion in 2030. This seems like a bit of a stretch to me.
Annie Duke was on the Richer, Wiser, Happier podcast. She is always worth listening to. I really like the William Green’s interviews.
This one at Freakonomics was interesting. I find it so interesting when talking about personal finance and what works psychologically vs. what makes the most sense mathematically.
This one on false confessions on crime on the Hidden Brain podcast peaked my interest. Though not investing related, it’s worth understanding your own blind spots.
